Memphis Star Vacation album with4 palm trees blowing in harsh winds

“Thea’s approach is professional and organic.  She listens to the music and the producer with great attention and equal value to produce arrangements that both compliment and leap off the sheet music. She appreciates the layered approach of orchestration.  She really came up with original parts and was very easy to work with collaboratively to arrive at what the artist desired. She transformed our song “Vacation” into something far better.”

“I started cello in 4th grade, like many people, partly because my grandmother encouraged me. She gifted me with her cello, which originally belonged to her father, to play. This year, I finally had the needed repairs made to my cello and took up lessons again at age 44, after not playing for a time period longer than I played! It’s been a wonderful experience (and not nearly as scary as I anticipated) and I’m sure my grandma would be absolutely thrilled.”

“Thea is a consummate professional and a brilliant musician.  She is always prepared.  She is flexible and willing to collaborate.  She writes creative parts and plays with great passion and heart.  She is a joy to work with – she adds something special to every song!”

“Thea has been a fine addition to the WAMI board.  Her energy, professionalism and involvement within WAMI and the Wisconsin music scene, in general, is second to none!”

“When I was given the opportunity to connect with Thea Vorass I didn’t hesitate–her reputation proceeded her. In the years that followed I’ve seen how I can count on her time after time for bookings, comms, and other opportunities I wasn’t even looking for. She’s a pro and I know I don’t have to worry about anything if Thea’s name is attached to it.”

“We brought Thea into the studio to play cello on several songs for our 2017 album Deadlines. Thea is the consummate professional. She came prepared, laid down tracks efficiently and added beauty and grace to my favorite album project. She’s also a pleasure to work with and her love of music always comes through in her playing. Highly recommended!”

Thea came highly recommended to me when we did our band’s last album. Rightfully so.  Thea was amazing…wrote the parts that fit perfectly for what we needed, was completely cordial and professional and really made the songs that she recorded on come to life. Just an all around great experience working with her and I’d DEFINITELY recommend her to anyone who’s in need of some A+++ cello performance.”

A LITTLE BIT

About Me

I began playing the cello during elementary school and eventually took it seriously enough to choose a new cello over having a car! I knew I wanted to pursue music so I began studying music at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and eventually learned about music therapy and the program offered at the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire which is where I ended up finishing my studies and completing my degree in music therapy.

During college is when I first began working in recording studios with local bands. Sessions called for me to improvise or arrange parts which is a skill I had to learn since my focus had been on sight-reading. I feel that having the ability to improvise and sight read in the studio helps me to contribute to many genres of music and has led to numerous recordings played throughout my career. To hear selected samples of my recordings, please see my discography page.
